Abstract

Exchange-current contributions in pion-nucleus reactions are in general small due to the nature of the effective pion-nucleus interaction. The reactionπ−d→π−np near the deuteron breakup threshold provides an exception. The isovector exchange current should give the largest contribution to this cross section for momentum transfer values between3 and 4 fm−1
