On a trouve que la densite de charge d'echange en moyenne, sur des surfaces metalliques, n'est pas localisee a la region de surface, mais varie avec la profondeur selon la position de l'electron par rapport a la surface. Comme l'electron vient de l'infini, le trou s'etend sur le cristal entier. C'est le trou de correlation qui doit former la charge image sur la surface metallique
