Abstract

Five cases of patients in hepatic coma treated with exchange transfusion are reported. Two of them fully recovered. Two others died in the postexchange period without fully recovering consciousness, one due to haemorrhage and infection and the other due to severe hypoglycaemia. One who showed an initial good response succumbed later due to the associated degenerative disease.
