Abstract

Recent results of capacitance measurements on one-dimensional quantum wires are numerically modeled. Local density approximation is used to take into account exchange and correlation effects. Particular attention is paid to the behavior at low densities close to the onset of the quantum wires, where measurements have revealed a pronounced enhancement of the capacitance signal. From the simulation results we infer that the enhancement is caused by exchange and correlation effects of the interacting one-dimensional electron gas.
