Abstract

The excess volumes V E for tetrakis-(2-ethylbutoxy)-silane ( tkebs) + cyclohexane, + benzene, and + carbon tetrachloride have been measured at 298.15, 308.15, and 318.15 K with a continuous dilution dilatometer. For tkebs + cyclohexane, V E is positive with a maximum at 298.15 K of 0.294 cm 3 mol −1 near mole fraction 0.30 of tkebs. The maximum value decreases as the temperature increases. For tkebs + benzene, V E is positive with a maximum at 298.15 K of 0.323 cm 3 mol −1 near mole fraction 0.30 of tkebs. The decrease in the maximum with increasing temperature is less than for tkebs + cyclohexane. For tkebs + carbon tetrachloride, V E is negative with a minimum value at 318.15 K of −0.296 cm 3 mol −1 at mole fraction 0.36 of tkebs; this value becomes less negative as the temperature decreases.
