Abstract

Abstract Densities and viscosities of prop ionic acid in methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol and 1-butanol have been measured at 308.15 K. From experimental data the excess volume (VE ), excess viscosity (nE) and the excess molar Gibbs free energy for the activation of flow (G∗E) have been computed and presented as functions of composition. The parameter “d” of the Grunberg and Nissan expression has been calculated. The results indicate A-B type interaction which decreases in strength with an increase in the chain length of alcohols.
