Abstract

Excess molar enthalpies and excess molar heat capacities atT=298.15 K were determined for {xCHCl3+(1−x)c]-(CH2)4O orc-C6H12} and for {x1CHCl3+x2c-(CH2)4O+(1−x1−x2)c-C6H12}. Both experimental properties were represented by a Redlich–Kister type equation. The large negative values of the excess enthalpies and the positive values of the excess heat capacities observed in the ternary composition domain are mainly determined by the specific interaction between chloroform and tetrahydrofuran. The properties of the ternary system were poorly reproduced by combining the information of the parent binary mixtures using empirical rules. They were, however, better described by semi-empirical equations such as the Wang, UNIQUAC, and UNIFAC methods.
