Abstract

Excess heat capacities of mixtures of non-electrolytes were determined from measurements of volumetric heat capacity in a Picker flow calorimeter. A precision of ±0.02 J K −1 mol −1 was achieved for C p E, using a stepwise procedure. Results are reported for the following binary mixtures at 298.15 K: tetrachloromethane + benzene and + cyclohexane, n-heptane + ethanol, + n-propanol, and + toluene, and isooctane + benzene, and + toluene. In most cases our results are in reasonable agreement with results obtained from other types of calorimeters and with values derived from the temperature variation of excess enthalpies.
