Abstract

A modified form of excess angular momentum is introduced into both the n dimensional hydrogen atom and the harmonic oscillator. The degeneracies of the new energy levels are shown to be simply related to the representations of O(n+1) and SU(n), and in one case this is explained by decomposing the excess system into the direct sum of similar normal systems.
