Abstract

We examine 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) and decyl glucoside (DG) as hybrid additives to inhibit the corrosion of Al-5052 anode in sodium hydroxide solution. The gas evolution experiment, electrochemical measurements, morphological and spectral analysis, ellipsometer, as well as simulating computation are used to investigate the corrosion inhibition strengthening mechanism. It demonstrates that 8-HQ can coordinate with Al3+ ions to form complex film. DG can assemble on the complex film to improve the corrosion inhibition performance through “micelle solubilization”. The optimum corrosion protection efficiency is 83.7% for 10 mM 8-HQ + 3 mM DG.
