Abstract

The microstructure, mechanical, magnetic and magnetocaloric properties effect in LaFe11.6Si1.4H1.4/Pb-Bi-Cd composite materials were investigated. The compressive strengths of 5, 10 and 15 wt.% Pb-Bi-Cd alloys are 259, 344 and 495 MPa, respectively, which are much higher than that of parent compound. The Curie temperature does not change after composition process. Under the magnetic field change of 2 T, the volumetric isothermal magnetic entropy change for 10 wt.% Pb-Bi-Cd alloy is 79.36 mJ/cm3 K around room temperature. The composites have excellent mechanical properties while maintaining large isothermal magnetic entropy change, suggesting that LaFe11.6Si1.4H1.4/Pb-Bi-Cd composites have potential practical application in magnetic refrigeration.
