Excavations at Wanborough, Wiltshire: An Interim Report

The settlement lies some 20-22 kilometres south-east of Cirencester, on Ermin Street, at a point where a branch road diverges to Mildenhall, and just before the main road ascends the northern scarp of the Berkshire Downs. The Common Head Road Improvement Scheme, prior to its construction in the early 1970s, had for some years threatened a large part of the Roman site and, subsequently, the construction of a large flood-water lagoon caused further destruction within the area of the Roman settlement.
