Excavations at Potovens, near Wakefield, 1968

Abstract

This report describes the excavation of three separate kiln sites: a late 15th-century clamp kiln; two six-flue kilns and a four-flue kiln, all of mid 17th-century date; and one early 18th-century kiln site. The pottery produced at these three sites covers a period from approximately 1475 to 1780 and illustrates a predominantly local character.
