Abstract

The purpose of the article is to study the causes and key directions of the worsening of the crisis on the Korean Peninsula, as well as to determine possible ways to stabilize the situation. The methodology is based on the use of the following research methods: the method of comparative analysis, the systematic method, which determines the consideration of the security policy of the Republic of Korea and the DPRK. A comparative method is also used, which allows to determine the evolution of views on the nuclear missile problem of North Korea. The study also used the method of critical analysis of scientific and official sources. Scientific novely. On the basis of the analysis of available sources and scientific articles, a comprehensive analysis of the situation on the Korean Peninsula was carried out in light of the escalation of confrontation between the United States and China and Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. A changed strategy for relations between the Republic of Korea and the DPRK is proposed as a way to overcome the systemic crisis. Conclusions. The situation on the Korean Peninsula was analyzed, and it was determined that in the near future the situation on the Korean Peninsula will become even more tense, and both the Russian Federation-China-DPRK alliance and the US-Republic of Korea-Japan alliance will strengthen. That is, the arms race and the new “cold war” will continue on an unprecedented scale. It was determined that the problem is exacerbated by the fact that the DPRK is constantly building up and improving its missile and nuclear weapons. The author clearly states that in the light of the events in Ukraine, talking about complete denuclearization in the American way is a futile effort, so the Republic of Korea and the United States need to change their strategy and build relations with the DPRK from the position of political realism in order to avoid a new conflict and ensure peace on the Korean peninsula. It is emphasized that as a result of the crisis on the Korean Peninsula, the level of tension in the region has increased to the maximum in the last few decades. It was determined that the aggravation of the crisis on the Korean Peninsula increased the need for effective stabilizing actions of the international community in the Middle East (Iranian nuclear program).
