Abstract

Straight men listening to the messages of the #MeToo movement responded by revisiting decisions made during adolescence and young adulthood concerning how to conduct themselves sexually. In this clinical snapshot, two common themes were identified: a guilty complicity over being silent about other men behaving badly, and confusion about the new rules of dating initiated by the Aziz Ansari story. In addition, four distinct types of response were identified, each described with a hashtag: #BeOpen, #BeBetter, #ImDone and #ImOut. Finally, a pernicious, violent response was noted.
