Abstract

Records from broadband seismic station AAK located on Kirgiz Ridge, Tien Shan, are presented. The episodes of discrepancy between tectonic displacements and tidal oscillations are registered and compared with the timing of local earthquakes of energy class of K > 11 which occurred during 2000–2018. Several times the tectonic anomalies and the earthquakes occurred on the same day. Comparison with the meteorological data is carried out. The following physical mechanism of this phenomenon is suggested. The records of the broadband seismic station reflect gravity variations and vertical ground deformations caused by the displacements of air masses. This process initiates slow movements and earthquakes near unstable faults.
