Abstract

In order to explore the correlates for frequent consideration of leaving the ordained ministry of the Anglican Church, all those ordained to the Anglican ministry in one year in England and Wales were asked questions relating to demographic factors, churchmanship factors, personality factors, and work-related psychological health factors. Among the demographic factors more frequent consideration about leaving was negatively correlated to age. Among the churchmanship factors more frequent consideration about leaving was related to Liberal churchmanship. Among the personality factors more frequent consideration about leaving was correlated to Eysenck’s Neuroticism and negatively correlated to Eysenck’s Extraversion. Among the work-related psychological health factors proneness to Emotional Exhaustion and to decreased satisfaction in ministry increased with more frequent consideration about leaving the ministry.
