Abstract
Mechanical heart valves have an increased risk of thromboembolic and bleeding events owing to the life-long need for anticoagulation. The estimated incidence of thromboembolic events ranges from 0.3% to 1.3%/year and bleeding events 0.34% to 1.8%/patient-year. 1 Cannegieter SC Rosendaal FR Briët E.
