Abstract

In the present work the variability of the structure and chemical composition of the paint coating were investigated using FT-IR and Raman spectroscopies. Paint samples were collected from 30 car bodies from both metal and plastic parts of each car. The morphological characteristics of all samples were also analysed. It was found that in many cases the composition of the paint coating in various places differed significantly, in spite of the same final colour of the coating. The obtained information on the variation of the chemical contents within a car body has provided great support in the process of evaluation of analytical findings in real forensic cases.
