Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationships between internet addiction and parental attitudes of students in adolescence in terms of some variables. The universe of the research consists of students (9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades) studying at a public school in Karşıyaka district of İzmir province. A total of 386 students participated in the study. The data of the study were obtained by using the "Parent Attitude Scale", "Internet Addiction Scale" and "Personal Information Form". The obtained data were analyzed using the SPSS program. Considering the findings of the study, a significant relationship was found between parental attitudes and internet addiction. Statistically significant relationships were found between internet use, having a romantic relationship, parental attitudes and internet addiction in adolescents before and during school. A positive and low-level significant relationship was found between the protective, democratic and authoritarian parental attitudes perceived by the adolescents and the level of dependency.
