Abstract

Extended X-ray absorption fine structure measurements have been carried out near the Nb K-edge of Nb3Sn and the V K-edge of V3Si in order to investigate the local structure in the martensitic and the premartensitic phases. The first shell splits into three shells in the premartensitic phases. This implies that the local distortion with the low temperature martensitic structure takes place in the cubic phases of these A–15 compounds.
