Abstract

The solutions to the semiclassical backreaction equations are found for conformally invariant free quantum fields in spatially flat homogeneous isotropic spacetimes with no cosmological constant nor classical source when the ratio of the regularisation parameters alpha and beta is 9/4. For alpha <0 a one-parameter family of solutions exists with no particle horizons. They have a final Friedmann stage and the Universe expands as if it were matter dominated at late times. For alpha >0 two one-parameter families of solutions with no particle horizons exist and they have a final de Sitter stage. Besides, one of them does not have singularities. The behaviour of the solutions is investigated for other values of the parameter ratio. Also, the stability of the asymptotically Friedmann, de Sitter and Minkowski solutions are studied.
