Abstract
The properties of the Bethe-Salpeter equation (B.-S. equation) for two fermions with equal masses mediated by a massless vector particle (photon or {ie219-1} model as specified in the text) are investigated in the ladder approximation. For vanishing total energy of the bound state, sets of eigensolutions of the homogeneous B.-S. equation are obtained. Arguments are given that one of these belonging to discrete eigenvalues of the coupling constant can be called a bound state, whereas the other continuous sets lack in some properties, attributed to bound states of the usual sense.
