Abstract

For a special case of parabolic confinement, the effective mass Hamiltonian for excitons in quantum dots can be solved exactly. Assuming the interacting force between the electron-hole pair obeys the Hooke's law, analytical exact results are obtained. For the usual Coulomb force, numerical exact results are obtained. These are so far the only exact solutions for excitons in quantum dots, against which the validity of various approximation methods can be tested.
