Abstract
In this communication, by means of the operator algebra we have succeeded to derive the exact solution of the functional Fokker–Planck Equation for a stochastic cell growth model with asymmetric cell division in closed form and investigated the time evolution of the derived density function. It is found that the density function exhibits an interesting “multi-peak” structure generated by cell division as time evolves. The knowledge of the exact closed-form solution not only provides a basis for understanding the concepts and properties behind the functional Fokker–Planck Equation, but it can also be useful as a benchmark to test approximate and analytical procedures because the existence of exact closed-form solutions is rare for the functional Fokker–Planck Equations.
