Abstract

Abstract Exact tests evaluate the significance of a test statistic by using the test statistic's empirically derived sampling distribution instead of a theoretical sampling distribution. Preference for exact tests may occur in situations in which the sample size is small, or when the data have distributional deficiencies. Two well‐known exact tests, Pitman's test and Fisher's test, are described.
