Abstract

Exact solutions for the energy eigenvalues, the eigenvectors, and the radiatively induced transition probabilities have been obtained for an axially symmetric paramagnetic ion characterized by S=I= 3 2 (applicable to Cr 3+) when the static magnetic field is parallel to the crystal symmetry axis. The terms included in the spin Hamiltonian are the electronic Zeeman, the crystal field, and the hyperfine interaction. Usefulness of the results in the field of quantum electronics is discussed.
