Abstract

The sum rule formalism of Ichimura, Austern, and Vincent, constructed for inclusive breakup reactions based on the distorted-wave Born approximation, is compared critically with the exact sum rule formalism. This presents a possible explanation of why the former formalism overpredicts cross sections.
