Abstract

Solar energy is the energy source that is uncontaminated and sustainable. The implementation of wireless sensor network (WSN) with solar energy harvesting (SEH) technique is the latest field of research in Internet of Things (IoT). The WSN node battery energy is minimal and can last for just a few days depending on the operating duty cycle. In this chapter, the authors propose a new SEH technique for energy-constrained WSN nodes. SEH-WSN nodes will usually run for years to come. In past and current scenarios, harvesting of solar energy has been done using the P&O Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technique, which has yielded very good results. However, INC (incremental conductance) does produce better results as compared to P&O. In this chapter, the author propose and implement the INC-MPPT technique to apply SEH-WSN and compare it with the methodology of P&O-MPPT.
