Abstract

This article has two purposes. First, the evolution of terminology and definitions used in travel and tourism as reported in selected literature, primarily from the United States and Canada, is traced. Second, the results are reported of the replication of a 1977 study on the use and preference for travel and tourism definitions and terms among states and cities in the United States.
