Abstract
The article is devoted to the development of methods for studying the image of a city in the course of its historical evolution. Basing on available theories underlying urban space image studies, we identified essential approaches that allow the evolutionary dynamics of a city’s visual image to be retraced in its history. These principles were summarized in the form of a theoretical model demonstrating the mechanism of continuous development by which the visual image of the city evolves historically. The conclusion outlines the structure and content of the image of a historical city.
