Abstract

for last 10 years, two types of nuclear power plants, KSNP (Improved KSNP) of 1000 MWe class and APR1400 (Advanced Power Reactor 1400) of 1400 MWe class, were developed from KSNP (Korea Standard Nuclear Power Plant) in Korea. The key role of PSA in the process of the development of KSNP and APR 1400 was a decision making tool for optimization of design from an integrated safety point of view. The PSA is effective and unique tool to measure the integrated safety (or risk) of NPP, which cannot be considered in design basis. The role of PSA in NPP design has been expanded to make the NPP design rational to assure the safety and economic efficiency.
