Abstract

METHODS: Stage II colon cancer patients treated by surgery alone were included and classified as having recurrent or non-recurrent cancer. A set of sophisticated supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms automatically segmented digitized slides into major histopathologic components and extracted quantitative measurements from them. A non-parametric random survival forest methodology, 1,000 bootstrap survival models, was used to measure the association of 21 clinical and 101 computer-generated morphometric factors with disease-free survival.
