Abstract

Lifetimes of states in {sup 82}Y and {sup 82}Sr produced by the {sup 58}Ni({sup 27}Al,2{ital pn}){sup 82}Y and {sup 58}Ni({sup 27}Al,3{ital p}){sup 82}Sr reactions at 90 MeV have been measured using the recoil distance method. The present results along with previous measurements show how the {ital B}({ital E}2) strengths and collectivity vary with spin in the lowest {pi}=+ and {pi}={minus} bands of {sup 82}Y and in the ground state band of {sup 82}Sr. The alternating pattern of {ital B}({ital M}1) strengths in the yrast band of {sup 82}Y has been confirmed. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}
