Abstract

Long-time members of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) can probably remember the early days of our Society's publication—when it was basically a newsletter. Beginning about 1988, however, the focus shifted to clinical articles, and the concept of a “journal” separate from the Society news began to take hold. By 1996, we were a full-fledged, peer-reviewed clinical journal and had signed a publishing contract with Mosby. Since then, the content of our Journal has continued to evolve, and our readership has expanded far beyond ASAPS members alone. Today, Aesthetic Surgery Journal ( ASJ ), now published by Elsevier, is the most widely read journal of cosmetic surgery in the world, with subscribers in more than 80 countries. You will notice that, with this first issue of 2008, we have reached yet another plateau in our evolution, having made some significant changes to our format. First, we have adopted a simple, straightforward cover design that highlights who we are and the contents of each issue. This cover will be a consistent feature going forward. On our cover, directly beneath the masthead, is a new subtitle, “A Peer-Reviewed International Journal.” In addition …
