Abstract

As we view the accomplishments of the medical departments of the Army and Navy thus far in the war, we are moved with pride in their achievements. To those of us whom time has robbed of the opportunity of again participating in uniform, this creditable performance is a source of deep satisfaction and no little envy. The medical officers today have the advantage of almost thirty years of better professional education, better technical knowledge and methods and, with these, better mechanical appliances and transportation. It may be of interest to note at this time the course of development of medicine which has led to this great advance in treatment and cure of wounds and disease to see how these observations may apply to the future progress of medical education and practice.
