Abstract

This paper will bring to discussion on whether the building management system (BMS) or central control and monitoring system (CCMS) for control and monitoring of M&E (Mechanical and Electrical Systems) installations is fully representing intelligent building system (IBS) and will highlight the differences on functionality, level of integrity and system configuration amongst BMS/CCMS and IBS. This paper will continue to highlight various arguments between vendors claiming their own products and systems are intelligent, whether or not their IBS is really IBS, and what should an IBS look like. Further discussion on the current situation and the problems encountered in terms of technical, contractual, hardware and software compatibility between different products and the possible resolution will be included. This paper will conclude and project the future trend, technology and resolution on hardware and software compatibility on the further development on IBS.
