Abstract

Some physiological repercussions of anthracnose infection on the nitrogen metabolism of a susceptible host ( Cucumis melo L., var. Cantaloup charentais) are reported. The amino nitrogen content was increased in the infected plants, and a systematic study of amino acids and amides at different stages of infection showed that this fraction is greatly modified: citrulline and the amides accumulated in the diseased plants, whereas the dicarboxylic acid content was lower than in comparable healthy tissues.
