Abstract
Simultaneous measurements of 18O in samples of soil, plant water and atmospheric water vapor at the experimental site of La Miniere (Versailles, France) reveal: - strong spatial and temporal variations of the heavy isotope content of water in the continuum soil-plant-atmosphere; - isotopic free water evaporation model under constant level simulates fairly well the transpiration of leaves: dominant factors are in this case relative humidity of the air and kinetic enrichment factor; - transpiration under steady-state conditions provides water vapor whose the isotopic composition is those of collar water in the plant. This vapor is clearly showed by the isotopic method.
