Abstract

Saudi Arabia has rich oil resource and accounts for one sixth of the world’s oil reserve, around which its energy strategy has been evolved to oil. This paper firstly reviewed and examined the evolution of Saudi Arabian energy policy by taking into account of the critical role of Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in this process. Then how Saudi Arabia had acquired a dominant position in OPEC and how this affect the future of OPEC were discussed. Finally, some recommendations with respect to the energy strategy of other countries were given.
