Evidence Quality Assessment for Use of Capsule Endoscopy (CE) in Suspected Small Bowel Crohn's Disease (CD)

Abstract

Introduction: Evidence to support the use of new technologies such as CE in patient care accumulates incrementally over time. Deciding when sufficient evidence has accumulated to incorporate new technologies into clinical practice is challenging for both clinicians and policymakers. Thus, standardized evidence grading systems have been developed to assist in this task. Methods: We performed a systematic literature review to identify relevant articles concerning the use of CE in suspected CD. MEDLINE, EMBASE, COCHRANE Trials, BIOSIS, and ISI searches were performed through November 2008.
