Abstract

Pigments in single cells of the dinoflagellate Dinophysis norvegica were identified by microphotometric analysis of fluorescence emission spectra. Pink colouration and a fluorescence emission maximum at λ = 580 nm in preserved material provide evidence for the presence of a putative phycoerythrin-containing endosymbiont in this organism.
