Abstract
Tangential longitudinal sections of the differentiating xylem of species ofBrugmansia, Eucalyptus andPinus and the basal meristem of leaves ofSansevieria were examined after conventional fixation and embedding procedures, followed by removal of the embedding medium, and shadow-casting with platinum-palladium alloy. In the images obtained, in addition to microtubules and in some instances, other identifiable organelles, a fibrous or tubular reticulum could be identified which resembled the microtrabecular system previously reported as present in animal cells.
