Abstract

Results so far suggest that liposomes can promote absorption of lipid-soluble vitamins in bile-duct-obstructed and normal animals. This approach may benefit human subjects who are at present given regular intramuscular injections of vitamin E. The absorption of liposomal preparations of vitamin E which only contain natural ingredients should be compared with that of water-soluble tocopheryl polyethylene glycol succinate which has recently been given successfully to children with chronic cholestatic liver disease (Sokol et al., 1987). Combination of vitamins in liposomes may also enable mixtures of the lipid-soluble vitamins to be administered together in a single dose.
