Abstract

Evidence for immune mechanisms in neuroblastoma patients against the tumor include: (1) The finding of infiltrates of lymphocytes in the tumors from patients having a good prognosis; (2) in tissue culture there appears to be a lethal immune reaction by the lymphocytes of neuroblastoma patients against the tumor cells; (3) a less constant lethal immune activity by the plasma against tumor cells in tissue culture; and (4) unfavorable immune factor has been demonstrated which is a humoral “blocking antibody.” Among infants in the first year of life there is a correlation between higher blood lymphocyte counts at diagnosis and survival, and between lower counts and nonsurvival.
