Abstract
Spectroscopic observations are reported of an atmospheric-pressure argon plasma generated inductively by a high-power RF oscillator. Values of the excitation temperature T ex, obtained from measurement of the relative intensities of spectral lines, were substantially greater than temperature values T eq, determined from absolute continuum and line intensities on the assumption of local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE). If a “collisional-radiative” plasma model is used, the absolute intensity measurements yield temperatures T cr, which are in better agreement with the T ex values.
