Evidence for a non-microtubular colchicine effect in pigment granule aggregation in melanophores of the fiddler crab, Uca pugilator

Abstract

1. 1. Aggregation of pigment granules in the melanophores of Uca pugilator was inhibited by both colchicine and its u.v.-derivative, lumicolchicine. 2. 2. Since lumicolchicine does not interact with microtubules, the results of these experiments suggest that the inhibitory action of colchicine on melanin granule aggregation in Uca pugilator is not due to disruption of microtubules.
