Abstract

Red light enhancement of phytochrome pelletability is commonly explained by the association of phytochrome with particulate material. Evidence is presented that squash roots contain some substance(s) able to partially inhibit this phenomenon. The inhibitory activity is lost by dialysis and desalting in Sephadex G-50 of the squash root extract, suggesting that it has a small molecular size.
