Abstract

The use of the sinus graft to expand the placement of dental implants has become common place in the field of maxillary reconstruction. The sinus graft was first discussed in the literature in 1986 but was used in the late 1970s to increase the indications for implant placement. In 1996 a consensus conference was held to determine the efficacy of the procedure and to identify those materials which provided the best short and long term results. The results suggested that many materials could be used to graft the atrophic posterior maxilla.
