EVGEN: A framework for event generator in proactive system design

Abstract

Developing the proactive event-based system including components for efficient real-time data stream processing is a crucial issue in data-driven decision support systems. We suggest a framework EVGEN (stands for ‘EVent GENerator’) for generating of event data stream as a basic tool for developing and testing of proactive systems. The framework is allow producing a JSON-based data stream according to the preliminary settings: structure (variety) and intensity (or velocity). The architecture of the system is build based on Apache Kafka publish-subscribe messaging system. We applied the framework to evaluate the transportation traffic problem and to highlight the specifics and benefits of the solution.
